I was going to stay well out of the #FireRickRemender debacle because frankly I don’t read Captain America nor do I have a strong opinion on Remender as a writer in either direction. But now someone has pissed me off.
I was sent this piece on Jezebel last night. They invoke what happened to me…
If your discomfort with the whole Captain America #22 issue is simply the fact that sex had happened between two consenting adults in the presence of alcohol, this isn’t for you. You’re free and completely entitled to hate that and view it with great disdain but my attitude and problem with the fandom is not because of people finding issue with that overused plot device to get two people to finally be comfortable enough to do it but because of people making claims that Jet Black is 14 years old (when she’s not) and thus stating that despite her even saying she’s beyond those years to dare accuse Remender writing a statutory rape scene and faulting Sam Wilson as a rapist. If you had any of these thoughts, this is for you. Before you continue your crusade, please at least let me provide you with some facts.
Let me first introduce you to Jet Black as she was first introduced in the series (Captain America v.7 #1):
That girl right there with that mischievous look is not a baby as many have claimed. She is clearly in her prepubescent years enjoying the treatment her father, Armin Zola, is providing the capitalist captain.

Clearly the two siblings are not the same age, right? So why are there false rumors being spread around that Jet is 14? I honestly don’t know unless people believe Ian and Jet are the same person, which is silly, right? Apparently, not.

There is a world of difference between “tee hee Samus took off her spacesuit” at the end of a game and putting Samus in a skintight bodysuit from the start. If you asked Sigourney Weaver to spend all of Alien 5 wearing only her undies from the end of Alien, she’d fucking march off the set.
Your red arrow points at Samus’ heels when it should be pointed at her suddenly conspicuous breasts. I mean, just LOOK at the images you collected: Samus is jacked as hell in most of those old games, and the poses are casual. Now she’s in a fighting game and every shot I see, I’m staring at her chest or her crotch because it’s in my fucking face. And her arms are as skinny as they were when she was made of 8-bit pixels.
Context, context, context. I’m not going to defend “suitless-Samus-as-reward” but I sure as hell find it less obnoxious than transforming her from a tough chick into a sex object.
Fuck the new Samus, fuck the Zero Suit, fuck dismissing accusations of sexism with “B-but it was like that before!” Even IF I bought your assertion that there was no difference, does that mean I’m supposed to just accept that she looks ridiculous fighting in heels? Fuck that, armored Samus 4 life.
